Why I started Summit Training

After 2 years of exercising at home watching ESPN's early morning workouts, I joined my first gym in 1996. I figured I had "mastered" everything at home so joining a gym seemed like the next best thing. I ended up loving the gym!

That is, until I started getting injured and quite often too. I visited doctors, chiropractors and physical therapists several times without much relief. No one seemed to know what was wrong or how to fix it. I continued to exercise with heavier weights and added more difficulty to my exercises for many years.

I enrolled at NHCTC (now known as MCC) in Manchester in their Exercise Science program. When I started, I had no idea what I was going to do with a degree in Exercise Science except help myself with my own workouts.

Boy did I learn alot! And I learned I was doing many things WRONG!

In school I learned about the science behind exercise and most importantly that no two people respond the same to exercise.  In other words, no generic program works for everyone.  In order for each person to see results, it must be tailored to each individual’s needs.

It was hard to grasp, but I had to accept that every workout I had done since that first ESPN Early Morning Workout, had been doomed to cause me pain or fail to deliver results.  This was because none of those 'one size fits all' programs addressed my unique needs.

I figured there must be others like me out there. It was then that my goal became to help others learn the proper way to exercise without getting injured.

Summit Training was born!

The name Summit Training comes from my love of the mountains and hiking.
